Mangrove snapper or also known as gray snapper are very desired for eating and can be kept year round. These fish have a mild white fillet and can be prepared numerous ways. They must be a minimum of 12” in overall length to be kept.
They start their life cycle in the mangroves as juveniles. The tangled root system provides cover from predators as well as providing a source of food. As they grow older they move offshore and take up residence on natural hard bottom, ledges, artificial reefs and wrecks. Mangrove snappers are masters at stealing bait and can be challenging to catch. These highly sought after snappers can be caught on both half and full days.
